He was conscripted into the Ahnenerbe, a Nazi X-Files department run by Heinrich Himmler, and dispatched to Tibet to find a yeti. Unknown to them, in another corner of Hitler's empire, Nazi soldiers had already found and befriended a yeti. Back in Tibet... Schäfer and his team find and kill a yeti. They have it stuffed and sent back to the fatherland for Hitler's approval. The Nazis were finding Bigfoot everywhere they looked. Or were they...? Zoologist Ernst Schäfer's expedition to Tibet was focused on ornithology and scientific specimen sample collection to create a genuine scientific record of Tibet. Not wishing to upset his big boss, Schäfer created his yeti from a dead bear enhanced by dodgy taxidermy, including a Nazi salute. The friendly yeti was a polar bear costume used to promote Fanta in Germany after the Americans cut off the Nazi's supply of Coca-Cola. The bear remained popular in Germany well into the 1960s.
